National History
Founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-trained women. To trace its history is to tell a story of changing patterns of human relations in America in the 20th century.
Chapter History
Iota Omega has existed for almost 85 years and its history of service to all mankind is to infinite to grace the space a webpage provides. As a proud group of African American women, we believe the reader should be privy to significant historical points that demonstrate the tenacity and, as our 41st President Tracy Jackson coins, the “IT” factor that Iota Omega has defined. Despite the racial and class odds of the ‘roaring twenties’, sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha made a way out of no way during this decade.
Charter Members
In December 1922, eleven ladies chartered Iota Omega Chapter
